When STTA first developed, West had no International Baccalaureate program.
Essentially, STTA was the only Arts & Humanities program in the building. Now, STTA and IB both provide accelerated, enriched learning options
for students at West. The problem over the last few years has been that students had to make a choice between the two programs. But no more!
Now as students enter West as Freshmen they have a choice. Enter the pre-IB options if you are interested in the Sciences, Engineering, etc.
But if you are interested in the Arts, Humanities and Languages, Come Join STTA!!
Freshman STTA has the same requirements as Pre-IB with the added element of an Arts requirement. By Junior year, STTA students are required to
take IB Literature & Performance, an IB course being offered at West especially to meet the needs of STTA students who wish an arts
based curriculum but also want an IB Diploma! This course meets the IB Diploma requirements for a Standard Level Language A course.
Additionally, STTA students are expected to take an arts class of their choice. Those pursuing an IB Diploma should opt to take one of the many
IB Group 6 courses offered at West which include IB Theatre, IB Music Theory, IB Art or IB Dance.
Now you don't need to Choose!! STTA and IB are now working Hand-In-Hand to provide parents and students with choices for an enriched program
of study.
